Determined that the Braided Stainless Brake Hoses used for Street use needed to have a coating to protect the inner Teflon tube. It was found that dirt particles were working through the uncovered stainless braid and getting down to the Teflon inner tube. Then as the hoses moved it acted like sand paper and wore away the inner tube causing failure. What is a Whip Insert? The Whip Insert is placed on the end of the Braided Stainless Brake Hose before we place the fitting on for crimping. The Insert is made with a special aluminum that is a buffer between the stainless hose and steel fitting. This is required to prevent premature hose wear if there is any side movement (Whip) as the hose is used, being a softer material it buffers some of the motion. If you have steel on steel the hose would wear out prematurely. There is actually a D. T “Whip Test” that our process and hoses had to pass before we were allowed to make Street Legal Braided Stainless Hoses. We carry a product liability policy that we must have in order to make and sell brake hoses. Do you test your hoses?
